David E. Johnston works almost exclusively in watercolour, following in a tradition of Scottish Landscape Painting. He paints ‘plein air’ in the Mearns and North East of Scotland. A tonal painter, he captures the richness and diversity of the Mearns landscape by creating a sense of time as well as a sense of place.
His work is shown mainly in the North East to much acclaim, with reviews from prominent art writers. ‘Perfectly painted with a masterful, deft brush, Johnston’s paintings are completely captivating and not to be missed’. Roddy Philips, Aberdeen P&J
